Gutter Cleaning & Repair in Los Angeles, CA

Gutters in Los Angeles get ignored for months and then suddenly matter all at once. Most of our rain falls between November and March, often in a few large storms, and the first big one each season finds every gutter that filled up over the summer with jacaranda blossoms, sycamore and ficus leaves, eucalyptus bark, pine needles and palm debris. The water overflows at the corners, runs down the stucco, pools against the foundation and finds its way into the house. In the hills and canyons, gutters full of dry leaves are also a fire risk, because wind-blown embers during a Santa Ana fire can ignite them right at the roof edge.

We clean gutters by hand, bag the debris instead of dumping it in your planters, and flush each run to confirm water flows to the downspout. Then we look for and fix the problems that cause overflow: sagging sections pulling away from the fascia, leaking end caps and seams, downspouts that come loose or empty onto the foundation, and slopes that don't drain. We reattach hangers, seal joints, and add extensions or splash blocks to move water away from the house. We check the roof edge from the ladder as we go and tell you if we see anything a roofer should look at.

What this covers

  • Hand cleaning of gutters and downspouts
  • Flushing and flow testing each run
  • Leaking seam and end cap sealing
  • Sagging gutter rehanging and hanger replacement
  • Downspout reattachment and clog clearing
  • Downspout extensions and splash blocks
  • Metal mesh gutter guard installation
  • Debris bagging and haul-away
A note from around here: Hillside streets in Silver Lake, Mount Washington, Los Feliz and the canyons below Mulholland get the heaviest leaf loads and the highest fire risk. On the flatter blocks of Mid-City and the Valley, the common problem is a gutter that fills slowly over the dry months and then overflows in the first storm.

How a gutter cleaning & repair visit usually goes

Set Up Safely

We set ladders on stable footing, protect plants and pathways, and walk the roof line from the ground to plan the cleaning and spot obvious damage.

Clean by Hand

We scoop out all leaves and debris, bag them, and clear the downspout openings so nothing just gets pushed further down the line.

Flush and Find Leaks

We run water through each gutter to check the slope and flow, then seal leaking seams and end caps and reattach loose sections.

Direct the Water Away

We secure downspouts, add extensions or splash blocks so water lands away from the foundation, and clean up the ground before we leave.

In fire-prone parts of the city, gutters do more than handle rain. Dry leaves and needles in a gutter are exactly where embers land during a wind-driven fire, and recent fire seasons in the region have made that clear. In those areas, we recommend cleaning before the Santa Ana season and, if you want, adding metal mesh gutter guards, which keep out leaves without creating more fuel. After a fire anywhere nearby, gutters often fill with ash and debris that should be cleared before the next rain washes it toward the storm drains. Where a gutter dumps onto a slope, we can extend the downspout to a spot where it won't erode the hillside.

What shapes the price in Los Angeles

Gutter cleaning depends mostly on the length of the gutters, the height of the house and how much debris has built up. A single-story ranch with a short run is quick, while a two-story house on a slope, or one with steep stairs and limited ladder access, takes more time and setup. Gutters packed with a full year of eucalyptus or pine debris take longer than ones cleaned last season. Repairs like rehanging sagging sections, sealing seams or replacing downspout sections add parts and time. Guards are a separate cost. Scheduling a cleaning each fall is almost always cheaper than dealing with water damage from a clogged gutter.

Neighbors often ask

When is the best time to clean gutters in LA?

October or early November, before the first real storm, is the best time for most homes. Many people add a second cleaning in late winter, especially with big trees nearby. If you live in a high fire risk area, also clear gutters before the Santa Ana season starts in fall, because dry leaves in a gutter can catch embers.

My house doesn't have gutters everywhere. Is that a problem?

Many LA homes only have gutters over entries and patios, and that can be fine for a house with good overhangs and soil that slopes away. Where water off the roof splashes against stucco, washes out planters, or pools near the foundation or a garage door, adding or extending a gutter section can help. We'll show you where the water is actually landing after a rain and suggest only what makes a difference.

Are gutter guards worth it in Los Angeles?

It depends on your trees and where you live. In areas with heavy leaf fall or fire risk, metal mesh guards keep most debris out and reduce how often the gutters need full cleaning. They aren't maintenance-free, and fine debris and pine needles can still build up on top. Plastic guards aren't a good choice in fire zones. We'll give you an honest opinion based on what's actually falling on your roof.

Can you check my roof while you're up there?

We'll point out what we see from the ladder, such as cracked tiles at the edge, lifted shingles, torn flashing or gaps where animals could get in. We stay off fragile clay and concrete tile, since walking on it cracks more than it fixes, and we photograph anything concerning so you can see exactly what we saw. Loose edge tiles, small flashing gaps and missing vent screens we can often secure from the ladder the same day.
